Duality: How Opposites Attract

Duality consists of two concepts that exist in contrast with each other. The boundaries of one are defined by the rugged edges of the other, and yet the two must exist for the idea to be real. Light and dark, good and evil, black and white are most often described with their opposites, yet does one truly exist without the other? Printmakers dance in the middle between white paper and black ink, forming spaces and angles with carved strokes and rolls of ink. We make negative space positive, turn shadows into light, and blend the two until they are greater than the sum of their parts.
